I keep notes on everything. I have paper and writing instruments everywhere, and when I don’t I have been known to improvise by licking a window and tracing letters in the filth. For those of you following at home, I would suggest an indoor window. Outdoor windows are home to a delicious buffet of traffic spray and probably smallpox.
The idea behind notes is that you will be spurred towards action or inspiration one day when you are not so busy licking windows. Anyone can HAVE an idea…it’s the delayed application of the idea coupled with improper footwear choices that slows you down.
As a result, I am the proud owner of literally thousands of scraps of hastily scrawled information and thoughts. They are all stowed neatly away in a file called “The top drawer of my dresser”. I rummage through the drawer sometimes to be inspired or find socks. Some of the real gems include, but are not limited to:
“Why is there so much glitter at Christmas? It’s holiday herpes. Once you have glitter you never really get rid of it. Eggs, bread, milk.”
“Lic plate# GFT 413 Creepy guy parked outside. If I go missing, please investigate further”
“Verbal Smells”
This is easily my favourite one. I wish I could go back in time to nurture that nugget a little more to see where it was going to end up. It seems so simple, yet incredibly complex with its woody undertones. Verbal Smells. Likely a reference to something I thought would make a good story, or the title of my yet-to-be-written book…but also quite possibly a reference to a room freshener I was thinking about developing. It’s anyone’s guess really.
